Esan Community Of Georgia

Esan Community of Georgiata is a non for profit organization. The Association was formed in 1997 by a group of Esan indigenes who saw the need for Esan people in Atlanta and its surrounding area to come together to share their common heritage and also, to facilitate an avenue for members and their families to come together to celebrate and share the Esan culture and traditions. Our goal is to reach out to all Esan people to form partnerships with them to put together our resources to help the Esan community.

Together, we will embark on projects that will help to create awareness, eradicate poverty and improve the quality of life of the people of Esan land.

History Of Esan People

Esan (pronounced /aysan/) is one of the major ethnic groups in Edo State, Nigeria. The name ‘Esan’ owes its origin to Bini and was once corrupted to ‘Ishan’ by colonial Britain.

Esan Language

Full with different dialects, Esan language is quite unintelligible to even many native speakers. 

Dance Group

There are different types of dance in Esan Community in Edo State such as:Agbenojie, Uleke, Ukinabojie, Asonogun, Abayon,Ojeke, etc. 

Our Mission

The Esan Community of Georgia exists to provide a forum for all Esan peoples in the Atlanta Area to come together to liaise, support each other, celebrate and share their common heritage as well as promote Esan culture, values and traditions to the world at large. We strive to be of service and a force for charitable action, communal involvement and development in any community where we can make a difference.

The mission of Esan Community of Georgia is:

  • To promote love and unity amongst Esan People of Edo State, other Nigerians and the community in which we live
  • To organize Socio-Cultural events and activities for the enjoyment of organization members, other Nigerians and the community in which we live.
  • To build strong family ties and to encourage a high level of moral conduct and other traditional standard of Esan family values.
  • To organize activities that will teach our children our culture, moral, value, and beliefs.
  • To build a bridge of commutation and partnership between the Esan people, governmental entities, other non for profit organizations, and businesses here and those in Nigeria.
